Techy entrepreneur. Active urbanite. Podcast junkie. Champion of smart growth.
Above all, keeping Whaley's tail waggin'.
William is a (the?) OG Notion super user. He writes a Notion-centric newsletter that recently surpassed 100,000 subscribers. Yes, you read that correctly, 100,000 subscribers. He is also a close friend of my wife’s family. Additionally, he is a Rambull subscriber and I’ve noticed that folks that already subscribe to Rambull tend to make for the best profiles. That trend continues….
What is Notion?
Notion describes itself as “The all-in-one workspace — for your tasks, notes, wikis, and calendar.” It is a digital platform that many individuals, teams, and companies use to stay organized and productive. The platform has incredible flexibility and functionality to customize to your specific needs.

🛒Consumer Products Recommendations
To any normal person, I’m overboard with my smart home setup, with a lighting scene for all my teams and Google Assistant in every room. But every modern home needs surveillance, especially those with babies or puppies. The Wyze Cam v3 makes it insanely simple and economical. For $35, it’s safe to use outdoors and includes night vision and two-way audio for telling your dog to “leave it” or spooking the cleaning lady. Wyze’s cloud storage is also a steal: just $2/mo. per camera.
After burning through more portable Bluetooth speakers than I care to admit, I’ve finally found one I love. The WONDERBOOM 3 perfectly balances performance and mobility. It’s also waterproof and includes a helpful hanging loop. I keep it in my suitcase so I’m never stuck showering without André 3000 and Big Boi.
📲 Digital Product or App Recommendations
Notion rules my life and career. Kudos to Shaniece Mason for recommending it in a previous Rambull.
Zapier is nearly as essential to my life and work as Notion. By automating my recurring actions, it saves me loads of time and considerably boosts my productivity and efficiency. It’s also tons of fun.
Think of Zapier as IFTTT on steroids: IF a trigger occurs in one app, THEN perform actions in that app or connected apps.
Here are three of my favorite use cases:
1. Text friends on their birthday
2. Log all of my expenses to a centralized ledger
3. Capture my to-dos from Google Assistant
💪 Habit Recommendations
More recently, I’m on a hiking kick. Specifically, puppy-friendly hikes near Grandfather Mountain, NC, where I’m milking the last of the warm weather before Old Man Winter returns. A walk in the woods does wonders for the soul, particularly when shared with friends or fam.
🧾 Content Recommendations
The Morning Brew newsletter and TBOY podcast are the highlights of my morning media diet. They’re informative, entertaining and digestible. The teams behind them are remarkably smart and relatable, which I find refreshing in the modern media landscape. The Brew’s weekly quiz keeps me accountable for reading each day. I compete with friends on a group text (and always win).
🍿 TV or Movie Recommendations
I go gaga over Ken Burns documentaries and consider national parks our most underappreciated national treasures. So you can imagine my affinity for this six-part series from the celebrated filmmaker.
In true Ken Burns fashion, it blends captivating old photos, gorgeous modern footage, and the comforting narration of Tom Hanks to tell the surprisingly influential and turbulent history of national parks. In a sense, they’re an accident, and they never would have happened without such audacious visionaries as Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir.
The episodes are as relaxing as they are interesting—better for lazy Sundays than Saturday night thrills.
🥉 Honorable Mentions
When folks ask for restaurant recommendations in New York, I insist they visit Dirty Candy.
Simply specify your number of courses, and they take you on a dining journey unlike any other, filled with delightful surprises at every turn. Regardless of your dietary preferences, don’t be discouraged by the “vegan” label. What the chefs do with plant-based ingredients will blow your mind—and your palette.
This summer, my family visited Italy’s Amalfi Coast for a week jam-packed with enriching activities. Traversing the quaint old towns by e-bike was my highlight, and truly one of the most spectacular experiences of my life. The views are breathtaking, the weather is almost always perfect, and riding an e-bike is like floating on a magic carpet.
My meticulously curated holiday playlist, ChestNuts Roasting , might be my highest accomplishment. You won’t hear these indie renditions in the aisles of Tarjay.
1. Don’t listen before Dec. 1
2. Listen in order (no shuffling)

🎁 Best Gift in Recent Memory
St. Roch is arguably Raleigh’s best restaurant. It’s seafood—my favorite—with a creative Cajun twist, served small plates-style for sharing and trying many. The vibe is hip, with dim lighting and walls adorned with eccentric old photos. And the staff couldn’t be more pleasing.
Thanks sister Jules and brother Rob 😘

Last But Not Least….
Costco & Trader Joes: What are your favorite items and tips? I’d love to hear from you.
Just Bare Chicken Nuggets from Costco - air fry these bad boys and they taste just like Chick-Fil-A nuggets. You are welcome.
Perri-Perri Sauce from Trader Joe’s - we found this hot sauce based on a Yuka app recommendation (side note - the Yuka app is my favorite app featured in Rambull). I’m so glad we found it. This is now firmly in the household hot sauce rotation next to Cholula, Truff, Crystal, and Sriracha.
A new playlist: I’ve been digging this as a productivity boost.
The Odditorium - this Spotify playlist is updated monthly. It is specifically curated for each song to be played in order. NO SHUFFLING! (thanks to Gojj for the find)
Advice: I want to hear from you.
Enjoying Rambull? Have ideas to improve or people to profile? Makes my day when people drop me a note or better yet, forward Rambull to a friend. Make my day 😊.
