Do you have recipe for a ‘perfect day’ let alone a ‘great’ day?
My perfect day happened during a trip I took with my wife to Norway. We were there to celebrate one of her best friends Christina’s wedding (Christina’s Rambull profile is a great read).
We drove 5 hours north of Oslo through incredible landscapes to stay at a beautiful but remote hotel. I felt like I stepped onto the set of a Wes Anderson film. We woke up early to do a very challenging hike with 3.5k ft elevation change and views I’ll never forget. After the hike we went to a floating sauna to a cold plunge into the Fjord. That night we had a wonderful dinner at the hotel and an early bedtime. It was perfect.
However, I recognize that the major ingredients for my perfect day are not logistically or financial feasible on even a annual basis. Therefore, I appreciated this 1-day planner geared towards a more normal day. Antonio Neves shares in his planner that by doing these five things, you can turn a good day into a great day:
Sweat: Get some type of workout in.
Connect: Catch up with a friend, family member, or colleague. This is a real-time conversation where you hear their voice.
Grow: Learn something new. Do this by listening to a podcast or audiobook on your commute or during your workout, reading a book or newsletter, learning something on YouTube, taking an online course, etc.
No Tech: Unplug to recharge. At minimum, give yourself 15 minutes without any technology, notifications, or audio in your ear. You can go for a walk in nature, meditate, journal, etc. Just no tech.
Finish: Make meaningful progress on something personal or professional. It could be finishing a draft of a sales proposal, pressing publish on a blog post, organizing the closet, washing the car, or booking a reservation for date night.
I hope you have a great day!
Without further ado….
Why Milam?
ICYMI, Milam, specifically his coaching, was one of Tucker Piner’s recommendations several weeks back. I had a chance to connect with Milam and found him very thoughtful and interesting - quickly seeing why he has become a well regarded coach and speaker. We also connected about Milam’s international travels and being a new dad.

Milam’s Recommendations
Written in his own words…
Brand
🧱 I like to take a bottom-up approach to "look good, feel good, do good"
SHOES - Bobbies never fail
TROUSERS - bury me in Incotex Chinos
TOP - it's a toss up between anything from Todd Snyder or a knit polo from Percival
Add your favorite hat & sunnies and call it a day!
Well-Being
🧂 Hydration is the name of the game, y'all!
I start every morning by drinking at least 16 oz. of water with a pinch of Mediterranean sea salt and fresh squeeze of lemon (if I have it in my fridge)
Otherwise, I'm a big fan of LMNT before/during/after an intense workout.
My vices when I'm not hydrating with water: Ginger Ale on airplanes (only time I drink soda), Iced Coffees in summertime (with coconut milk), Hot Chocolate during wintertime (with oat milk for me, but go full dairy if you dare!), and a Branca Menta after a heavy meal (beware!)
Food & Drink
Food is my love language. Here's your curated F&B guide of six can't-miss places in the #6ix
🥩 Ossington Icon: Côte de Bœuf
🕯️ Date Night: Dreyfus
🍝 Neighborhood Italian: Quanto Basta
🇮🇳 Upscale Indian: The Cottage Cheese
🍪 Sweet Treats: Bang Bang Ice Cream AND sister bakery, Bakerbots Baking
🍷 Natty Wine Bar: The Daughter
Gift
📚 Both men and women can appreciate a big 'ol coffee table book. It's a classy and timeless gift--it's also a nice host gift to bring to a dinner party that isn't a bottle of wine (just sayin')
My go-to pick, having lived in NYC, is "Humans of New York"
Is this as relevant (or viral?) as it once was? No. However, these people's stories still matter... and they're still entertaining, too!
In the words of Bath Ruth: “Heroes get remembered, but legends never die."
Travel
🛎️ Big fan of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" as one of the best curators of boutique hotel properties around the world
My favorite property I've stayed at: Akelarre
Top property on my bucket list: Fogo Island Inn
Plug
📕 I'm set to publish my first leadership book titled, "The Charisma Craft: How to Become a Magnetic Leader" which explores a new definition of charisma rooted in authenticity, not fake attraction. While Gen Z may have claimed 'rizz' for romantic appeal or charm, it's time that we reclaim charisma as a means to create more human connection. This is especially necessary in the age of AI and hybrid work, as we work to build a new and improved future of work.
My book will help you in your quest to craft an authentic style of leadership by learning how to access your innate charisma, embody it with confidence and kindness, then deploy it using strategies that create genuine rapport.
Pre-sales go live this fall, followed by book release in 2025.

P.S. from Rambull — for more simple luxuries, I recommend getting a $15 wooden shoe horn. Overtime I’ve ruined the back heel of my shoes by jamming my foot in. We saw these in every hotel in Norway given everyone is having to put on boots regularly.
Nice dude! I lived for two years in Norway, a year of which was in Trondheim, not too far from where you were. And now back in the Nordics and enjoying sauna on the regular :)
