Content
I've been digging on a book by Jean Lartéguy, The Centurions. I'm usually drawn to military history, specifically non-fiction. While this book is fiction, it's based on real characters and real history. I found it fascinating that this book often became required reading for American military officers prior to arriving in Vietnam.
Well-Being
Most of my ideas, or struggles, are always released on a long run.
Food & Drink
Probably a bit biased here, but as a cookbook writer, typically I'm still chasing bites that I've tracked down from my travels. Particularly, my newest book pays homage to my own family history, and to my grandfather, a butcher based in Valdosta, Georgia. After writing books on the art of barbecue and grilling, this book provided me the opportunity to start at the beginning - the butcher. Surprisingly, butcher shops look quite a bit different these days - many of them go beyond just butchering to full blown restaurants, vegetable butchering and more. We traveled from Chinatown in San Francisco to the south of France and everywhere in-between. Tough gig, but glad to do it.
Professional
Attitude is everything. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Music
Living in Nashville, it seems like you can go out any night and find a new favorite. I just caught Aoife O'Donovan play Springsteen's Nebraska at the Basement East - she is incredible. You can find her music under her name, as well as her former band, Crooked Still. Otherwise, if you want a great 'undiscovered' artist with several albums to download, check out my friend Thad Cockrell.
Travel
The Mississippi Delta - probably the least understood, most fascinating, and best food destination in our country.
Specifically, I like spending time in Greenwood, MS. The Alluvian Hotel is a favorite - and The Crystal Grill is always a must, as well as a stop in to Hoover's Grocery to meet Ms. Mary and Sylvester.
