📝 Editor’s Note
Last weekend I went to see Stephen Wilson Jr play in Greensboro. I had a great time with my buddies Wright and Doug.
One thing that stood out to me was how many people were recording on their phones. On one hand, I appreciate their enthusiasm, on the other it is distracting. I don’t care how good an iphone camera is these days. A recorded version will never do the live experience justice.
This contrasts sharply with The Masters golf tournament this weekend, with its no-phones policy. Just from watching on TV, and being attuned to what I witnessed with phones on Friday night, I noticed everyone either directly engaged with the golf happening in front of them or having meaningful conversations with those nearby. I've heard from multiple people who have attended The Masters about how refreshing the experience is, even if you end up separated from your group for a few hours and have to explore on your own.
That said, I’m glad there were cameras in Augusta to capture Rory’s win. Goosebumps.
Without further ado….
Why Josh?
Josh is my business coach. We’ve been working together for a year. I’ve written about him in prior editor’s notes, and I want to reiterate that Josh has been worth the time and resource commitment. I’m thinking clearly about how I analyze big decisions and how I find blind spots. He is just as thoughtful as he is accomplished - I appreciate his creative side with textiles and his substack. Please let me know if you would like a referral.

Josh’s 6 Recommendations
Written in his own words…
1. Radio Garden
I love Radio Garden. It allows you to drop in and listen to any of the thousands of radio stations around the world with a spin of the globe and a click of a button. Tune in to different cultures, languages, and musical tastes anywhere in the world from your mobile phone. A lightning-fast way to travel to a different place.
2. Yin Yoga Stretching
I am a big advocate of extended stretching (yin yoga style holds) in the morning every day. Flexibility is essential to long-term health and being comfortable in your own body. Since I have been stretching (much) more, I have felt dramatically better and have had improved athletic performance.
Vice: I am addicted to Trader Joe's dark chocolate-covered almonds. We always have a container of them sitting on the kitchen counter, and I indulge in them with the fig leaf that almonds are "healthy".
3. Conscious Business: How to Build Value Through Values by Fred Kofman
Currently reading Conscious Business: How to Build Value Through Values, by Fred Kofman. It explores how businesses can become great by following strong values. I like how it links personal growth with business growth, values and morality.
4. Extraordinary Attorney Woo
My wife and I have gotten really into South Korean movies and TV. We gobbled up Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which profiles and young autistic Korean woman who has just graduated from law school and is navigating her first job in the corporate world. It's very compelling TV and I dare you not to fall in love with her.
5. Purpose & Values
Well, I am an executive coach, so I have LOTS of tools and tips - but I will offer up one encompassing observation - people tend to be more productive and fulfilled when working on something with a purpose. Take time to know your purpose and values - that knowledge will guide you to employment that resonates with you, which will improve your odds of thriving in that job.
6. Rhiannon Giddens
She is not exactly under the radar, but I love Rhiannon Giddens. She is incredibly talented and musically flexible. I love roots music, so she's right in my lane. She also has a fun podcast with her musical collaborator, Francesco Turrisi, called Musical Roots Radio.
Plug | The Coach’s Launch
I am a professional coach - I am passionate about making a difference in people's careers and personal lives, one person at a time. My 30+ years in the field of management consulting have given me amazingly diverse experiences; I try to combine this with a natural curiosity and empathy to serve my clients at pivotal moments in their lives - promotions to new positions, job transitions, inflection points, and other events that trigger a desire to be more intentional.

P.S. from Rambull — I’ve started to realize the painful lesson that everything in my house is communal. Headphones are Exhibit A. My wife and I have appreciated having a cheaper version of Bluetooth headphones (~$20) that are not too functionally dissimilar from AirPods and more easily replaced.
So excited to try out Radio Garden! There’s a station my family listens to exclusively on river vacays, and now we can listen anytime! (Station is The Tide in Williamsburg, Va)
