📝 Editor’s Note
Last weekend I was asked to dress up as Santa for our neighborhood Christmas party. Easy yes.
My costume and disguise was on point. My three year old, fooled by the wig and fake beard, ran up to tell
meSanta what he wanted for Christmas. In addition to asking for binoculars, he made sure ask Santa to bring a present for his daddy who was still very sad because the Panthers lost.Another highlight came when our friend’s two year old daughter said she wanted a Barbie for Christmas. Knowing that she had dressed up as Taylor Swift for Halloween, I asked her if she wanted a “Taylor” Barbie. Her eyes lit up wondering how Santa knew…

Without further ado….
Why Jake?
Jake is four years younger than I am, yet an old soul who feels at least four years wiser than I am. Jake and I first met in college when I would drive the carpool for the Sunday evening church service downtown. I value his friendship and his quiet but dry sense of humor.
Self-Description
Aspiring to be an average chess player. Prone to mumbling, putzing, and recency bias. Enjoys eating Van Leeuwen while watching Seinfeld.
Jake’s 6 Recommendations
Written in his own words…
1. Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce Springsteen
Fairly late to the game, but I feel like I finally clicked with Bruce's music this past summer after trying for years. "Factory" is my top track.
2. NYT Slow Cooker Chipotle-Honey Chicken Tacos
You don't get to ~10,000 5-star ratings without having the talent to back it up. This recipe is super easy and you can use a Dutch oven if you don't have a slow cooker.
3. USPS Informed Delivery
I accidentally signed up for this service when I moved during COVID and had my mail forwarded to Richmond. Now I receive a daily email with an image of every piece of mail that will be delivered that afternoon. Pretty random service for the USPS to offer, but I like it.
4. New York, New York with John Jastremski
New York, New York with John Jastremski. I'm a Richmond native, but I ditched the DC sports teams in favor of the Knicks, Mets, and Giants. This podcast on The Ringer network dives deep into all elements of NY sports. The listener voicemails are the best part - nothing livens up the late July content slowdown like hearing Anthony from Syosset yell about firing Aaron Boone.
Bonus content recommendation —
CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties – Tom O’Neill. O'Neill spent 20 years researching the Manson murders, and while he never overtly presents a conspiracy theory for one of America's most famous crimes, he offers an in-depth look at all of the wild and terrifying initiatives that our government pursued in the 60's.
5. Peet’s Coffee: Major Dickinson’s Blend
Alfred Peet is the godfather of good coffee in the U.S. This dark roast is a reliable staple that can be found in nearly all grocery stores.
6. AMC Stubs A-List
This is essentially Movie Pass, but you get to see 3 movies a week. It pays for itself if you see one movie per month. Now is a great time to sign up, as we're heading into the best part of the year for film releases.

P.S. from Rambull — With all the holiday shopping it takes a lot of restraint to not buy anything for yourself. I caved and got this $19 multi-tool. Dads, do yourself a favor and check it out. It will come in handy on Christmas morning.
According to the picture it's "Major DickAson's", not "Major DickINson's" 😁
