📝 Editors Note
I am the type of person that spends 3 minutes trying to find the right song even if I’m only driving 2 minutes away. As much as I enjoy listening to music, I’ve never been a huge concert guy or passionate follower of specific bands (where are my Phish fans at?).
However, several of my friends are — including my buddy Sether H. He turned me onto St. Paul and the Broken Bones (and Billy Strings). They came through North Carolina last week and put on a great show. The experience reinforced that going to see live music is something I need to do more often.
So this is my two-fold recommendation to (1) go see more live shows and (2) listen to St. Paul and the Broken Bones. If you are not familiar with their music, start with Apollo or GotItBad.
Without further ado….
Why Isaac?
Tangle is one of the few newsletters I read consistently. Isaac is the founder of Tangle, an independent, ad-free, non-partisan politics newsletter. His approach of presenting the different sides of an issue as well as sharing his own POV is both refreshing and educational.
I was humbled when Ari Weitzman, Tangle’s managing editor, reached out. He noticed the traffic coming to their site when Cole H originally provided the Tangle recommendation. I hope we will send them more, as I believe their work is important.
Follow Isaac on Twitter @Ike_Saul. You can check out a recent Tangle issue here, which went viral last week. Tangle has around 75,000 subscribers.
Self-Description
An optimistic writer who is always looking for the next story to tell, one that can teach us a little something about this very complicated country we live in.
Isaac’s Recommendations
Written in his own words…
Food and Drink
I've been on a big whisky kick this year and Starward Two Fold is the best bottle I've had in a long, long time. And it's cheap!
Gift
A friend got my wife a homemade ice cream maker recently and we have been loving it.
Content
I'm currently reading Tim Urban's "What's Our Problem?" and "Desert Solitaire" by Edward Abbey, both of which are fantastic.
Tim Urban's What’s Our Problem? is one of the best explorations of this current political moment I've ever read. He understands our problems and states them clearly. Desert Solitaire is an absolute classic and for good reason — I can't believe it took me this long to read it. It is a magnificent, biting ode to the desert, the wildlands of America, and a reminder to cherish the untouched beauty of our planet before we all destroy them.
Digital
Sunsama is the best organizational tool I've ever used — the only one that has actually improved by productivity!
Wellness
Before I look at a screen in the morning, I make sure to read a few pages from a hard copy book or magazine. I also get a few minutes of sunlight and fresh air on my roof. Rolling out of bed and into work (or your phone) is bad for your stress, your eyes, and your health!
Watch
My wife and I are binge-watching Peaky Blinders right now, and I gotta say... it is awesome.
Music
My favorite obscure band is Mo Lowda and the Humble. If I could recommend only one song of theirs, it would be The Way Home.
Plug
I run a politics newsletter that summarizes the best arguments from the left and right on the big debates of the day. It is, in my humble opinion, a refreshing and honest way to digest the news. And with 74,000+ subscribers it is becoming very popular!

P.S. reddit is a great source for product and travel recommendations. Great for searches like “reddit, best coffee shop in Charlotte” or “reddit, best pillow for side sleepers”. Check out the subreddit my friend Bo R turned me onto: r/BuyItForLife
