📝 Editor’s Note
My father-in-law and I were recently talking about some of the best advice we had ever received. Naturally, that sent me down a rabbit hole on the subreddit r/LifeProTips.
Here are some of my favorites from Reddit:
When you sign up for anything online, put the website’s name as your middle name. That way when you receive spam/advert emails, you will know who sold your info.
Always tell a child who is wearing a helmet how cool you think their helmet is. It will encourage them to always wear it in the future.
When a friend is upset, ask them one simple question before saying anything else: 'Do you want to talk about it or do you want to be distracted from it?'
If you’re stuck on an annoying call, put your phone on airplane mode instead of just hanging up. The other person will see “call failed” instead of “call ended”.
Don't save the good wine for a good day. Good wine is wasted on a good day. On a good day, all wine is good wine. Bad wine is good wine. Drink the good wine on a bad day. That's what it's for.
Oh, and the best advice I’ve received from a manager was to say simply say “I don’t know”. Most can tell when you are faking it and respect you when you own it.
Without further ado….
Why Ari?
I got connected to Ari when I initially profiled Isaac, the author of Tangle. For those of you who’ve been subscribed to Rambull, you know I’ve recommended Tangle and several times. It was a no brainer to get Ari involved with a Rambull profile. He delivered!
Note - Ari filled this out when we first connected in November, hence the Autumn references.
Self-Description
I'm a serial generalist, a verbopihle, and a curious person always balancing loyalty and open-mindedness. Newly minted Vermonter and lifelong Pittsburgher.
Ari’s Recommendations
Written in his own words…
Digital Tool
The Minimalist Phone Launcher for Android
Along with setting boundaries for where I allow myself to look at my phone, this app has been instrumental in helping me decimate my smart phone usage.
Content
I'm currently reading 'Oblivion,' a collection of short stories from David Foster Wallace. He's simply one of our generation's best writers, and 'Oblivion' is him at his most disturbing — perfect for spooky season.
Brand
For the ample-thighed gentlemen who rips every pair of pants he owns, I cannot recommend this durable gusseted pair of pants strongly enough.
Food and Drink
I lived in California several years ago, and after (responsibly) trying many options found that Michael David's 'Freakshow' Cabernet Sauvignon was my favorite affordable wine. I became a subscriber to their wine delivery club after moving to Pennsylvania, and recommend it for people who consume about four bottles a month. If you sign up, tell them Ari misses them and wants them to deliver to Vermont.
Professional
Follow your curiosity
Since I was a kid I was always told 'follow your passion,' but you can't know what that is unless you explore. Sometimes your interest is deep and seemingly without bottom, but other times you find you were only attracted to the oily shine off a pothole puddle. But you never know unless you jump in and splash around.
Oh, and don't be afraid to pack up and move on. Take it from me, a dropout of three postgraduate degrees, mattress salesman, ultimate frisbee coach, software engineer, and news editor. You've got one life. Don't spend it all within self-imposed borders.
Music
One of my friends hosted a small concert up in Huntington, VT, to benefit the nearby cross-country ski center, and we were lucky to be treated to a powerful set from Logan Halstead. His song 'Dark Black Coal' became a viral sensation on radiowv's YouTube Channel (link) following that channel's even more viral hit with Oliver Anthony. Halstead's album 'Dark Black Coal' is a haunting and powerful ode to West Virginia.

P.S. Ari needs recommendations for great autumn songs for a playlist he is developing. Shoot him a note or drop them in the comments.
